Today my husband and I ate at Brakeman’s smashed burger bar. I ordered a Wagyu burger Mountaineer style and my husband ordered a triple Wagyu burger classic along with some garlic fries. Fries were a tad salty and me personally would like a little more garlic in the aoli. My burger on the other hand.... OH MY GOSH!!! It was phenomenal it was juicy. It was well put together. The cheese was super melty and the bun was so soft and paired well. My husband said his was also juicy and tasted like a good ole american burger. Like the ones you had as kids. . Over all I will definitely be back to try the other things on their menu!! Head on over and check them out and let me know what I should try next!! Please get on yelp

Great smashed burgers with tasty sauces. Special character and interior decoration. Original idea: whenever the train passes you can get a 2 shot with pickle juice. Good beer selection.

Choo choo. What happens when a rumbling 90-car freight train collides with a herd of Japanese cattle? It just so happens to conjure up one of the Springs’ finest smash patties. I’m talking about Brakeman’s Smashed Burger Bar. Brakeman’s is one of the city’s most train-forward restaurants, and not just because of its adjacency to the tracks. I first hit this hussy under the biting breezes of a January night. Then, as if by great northern magnets, I was pulled right back the next day to ensure the juice-dazzling spatter-sizzling splendor wasn’t a fluke of hunger. Night one caught me feeling lux, so I hunkered down on the Mountaineer burger and got to work. Mmm! Led by a skewered pepperoncini as bright as a train lamp, this rig took me to my happy place. A heavy-handed pickled onion sprinkle rolled up with smoky jalapeno on melty white ched and a freight load of arugula. Oh and what’s that up there? That’s a hefty dollop of garlic aioli—on both buns. Now throw that heap on two meat-candied smash patties that had more fringe game than John Wayne. This thing ate. Dribbles garnishing my quivering chin, I thought, “By God, I gotta belly up and go for the triple.” So 21 hours later I was eagerly awaiting their “classic smash’d” 3-stack, which promised fine sheets of wagyu, melty American, onion, pickles and the delightfully mustard-positive house sauce. I was ready to investigate the essentials of this absolute institution of a patty. As I disappeared into its barbacoan wonder, Jess remarked: “We probably look like a couple of Chowderhounds.” But we gobbled on. I patiently savored the last piece of heavenly cud and, in time with my final gulp, the whoosh of a train rolling by tied a neat bow on the evening. Brother, does this place cut the mustard. My only complaints were the strange jaundiced effect of yellow lighting and fries that lost their skins—and their integrity—somewhere in the kitchen. On the whole, I’d liken this pair of grease beasts to the 1.9 million pound Union Pacific Big Boy: They’ve pulled their weight on many a cold, dark night and, by my appraisal, shine as some of the finest in their class. Go on, climb aboard one of the region’s strongest burgers. My best to you and yours.

My family all got the Lunch Box special—it was a great price, and the food was fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was inviting, the bathrooms were clean, and we left happy and full. We scarfed down our meals before I could take any pictures, but we had a lovely view from our seats. We’ll definitely be back!

Fried pickles were amazing. Definitely the best I’ve ever had. It’s quickly becoming our favorite burger spot in town. Service is always amazing and everything on the menu has been so good so far. Cannot say enough good things about this place. The train shots are also such a fun experience, they come with house pickle juice and it’s so refreshing.

My fiance and I enjoyed a tasty lunch here on a Saturday. We didn’t have to wait long for a table. We grabbed a really tasty Moscow mule . I had the mountaineer burger and added mushrooms with a side of aioli truffle sauce. We shared an order of truffle fries and loved pairing it with the aioli sauce. My fiance order the hot chicken Sando and asked for it extra spicy and it was perfect for his pallet. We will definitely be back.

Amazing space with so much charm and detail. The staff was amazing and friendly. Quick service and delicious food. Super kid friendly and a great supper out. The only downside was the heat—sitting next to the windows on a sunny day was sweaty.
